Jamaica’s vibrant wedding season is in full bounce. What are the latest wedding hair trends for 2023? We spoke with Moya Calvin and Terry Shoucair from Leiane Evans Limited about how brides can incorporate these looks, no matter the hair type.

Calvin and Shoucair agree that this year, the emphasis is on celebrating individuality and embracing natural beauty. Many brides are now opting for styles that are practical rather than just trendy, whether they decide on up-dos, done as sophisticated low or high buns or romantic half-up, half-down styles with beach or body waves. Many of these styles are achieved through popular techniques and integrations such as tape-ins, 3D 360 lace-front wigs, fine twists, bohemian curls and Hollywood waves.

“I am happy to see the direction of many emerging styles which can be retrofitted to any bride. I love when the style comes to life like a painting on a canvas,” said Shoucair, a hairstylist with over 40 years of experience.

For our curly type-four-haired island beauties, 2023 is all about flaunting those natural locs with pride. Enhance your do with intricate hair accessories such as floral crowns or delicate hairpins. If you have a straighter hair type, consider adding texture and dimension to your look by experimenting with braided up-dos, elegant fishtails, or even trendy bohemian braids. These styles add an element of sophistication and create a captivating visual contrast to your straight tresses, especially with wispy curls.

“Once the style does not put a client’s hair in danger of being damaged, I am more than excited to bring her vision to life,” shared Calvin, adding that it is important for brides to be realistic with what their hair can achieve based on its texture and volume.

Planning your perfect wedding hairstyle

  • Prioritise hair care leading up to the big day. Booking consultations up to a month before your big day allows your stylist to recommend regimens such as protein or castor oil treatments to ensure your hair can withstand the styling and also maintain the look throughout the entire day.
  • Avoid using products with a heavy consistency within the week of the bridal hair appointment, as it will affect the outcome of the desired style.
  • Don’t forget the power of a professional hair trial! The consultation with your hairstylist also allows you both to discuss your ideas in advance, try out different styles, and finalise your perfect look.
  • Embrace current trends and always consider your face structure, dress, the location of the wedding and accessories. However, remember to let your unique personality shine through.

For brides with shorter hair, fear not, as there are numerous chic options available. Pixie cuts and all-time classics such as bobs can be effortlessly elevated with hair accessories, including headbands, sparkling clips, or charming veils. Also, consider exploring the wonders of hair extensions, which can instantly transform your look, offering endless possibilities. Hair extensions generally add more volume, hold styles better, and of course, add more inches.

Finding the right accessories doesn’t have to cost a pretty penny, either! It’s all about infusing your creativity and personal touch!
