Madonna turned 62 on Sunday and marked the occasion with a one-of-a-kind celebration in Jamaica with her family, close friends and rumoured partner, Ahlamalik Williams.
“Welcome to Jamaica,” the Material Girl singer posted on Twitter and Instagram along with a bevy of images.
She thanked the country for being “so welcoming” while sharing snippets of all the “birthday fun” she had on the island.
The star’s six children, eldest Lourdes Leon, 23; Rocho Ritchie, 20; David Banda and Mercy James, both 14; and twins Estere and Stella, 7 were all there for the birthday weekend fun, along with musician and producer Diplo and dancer Loic Mabanza.
The global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic could not stop the pop icon from going all out, as is customary for her birthday celebrations.
In 2019, she brought out alter ego, Madame X for a weekend-long dance party. She rang in 60 in Moroccan city Marrakesh and celebrated turning 59 in Puglia, Italy.
Jamaica-Inspired Festivities
Her 2020 Jamaican-inspired festivities included a mento band which the singer swayed to while leaning on a cane for support.
Madonna suffered a knee injury in February during a performance at her Madame X show at Le Grand Rex in Paris, forcing her to cancel several performances.
On April 30, in post number 14 of her Quarantine Diaries, the singer announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.
Natty Pablo crooner Jesse Royal performed for the group. Madonna danced with Williams as she mouthed “I never had a love like this before”, words to Royal’s Sweet Sensation.
Later the group danced to the sounds of Ding Dong’s Ravers Gas.
Nyabinghi drummers sang Madonna ‘Happy Eartstrong’. Her custom birthday cake was done in a blend of Rastafarian colours, topped with a drumming rasta and marijuana leaf on the side. They also enjoyed a fruit platter made up of an assortment of local and foreign fruits
The singer posed in a snap posted to Twitter and Instagram with a joint, her marijuana-inspired manicure visible as she held a tray of weed and rolling papers.
Looking happy and healthy, she seemed to have a swell time.
