“I’m in love and I’m obsessed.” No, we’re not talking about the groom, even though he comes in at a close second. We’re actually speaking about the wedding dress. It’s every bride’s dream to walk down the aisle in a gown that embodies her beauty, radiance and personality, but trends also play a big role in selecting a dress (or two) for one’s wedding day.

What are some of the dresses trending in the bridal fashion world for 2023? According to Aneita Evans, owner of the Montego Bay-based Bridal Gowns by Neita, Jamaica is on trend with some of the globe’s favourites. She shared that brides are currently into dresses with a lot of straps, and are selecting those pieces over dresses with sweetheart necklines. Brides are also lovers of fit and flare, mermaid cut, and lightweight lace with tulle ends and chiffon polyester dresses with splits at the sides. Evans shared that she has also noticed some brides walking away from sequin-styled gowns in recent times.

House of Clay’s owner and designer, Keisha Allen, agreed, stating that fitted dresses, fit and flare gowns, as well as mermaid styles are all the rave these days. Brides, she pointed out, are also making stunning statements with detachable trains, long cathedral veils and illusion sleeves. They have also, unexpectedly, selected full satin gloves, proving that you just can’t beat tradition.

For Chardonnay Lewin-Davis, owner of Unions Bridal Boutique, who provided the dresses for the Flair Island Wedding photoshoot, while it’s all about personal preferences when it comes to saying yes to the dress, local brides are certainly staying up to date with the latest styles, fabrics, and design elements that are popular in the fashion industry. “The African illusion skin wedding dresses are currently trending,” she highlighted.

So, if you’re an upcoming bride, looking to say yes to the right dress, don’t despair, there are a number of options to choose from and so many trends you can take advantage of.
